CHICAGO, October 18, 2023 — In his latest installment in the award-winning Harwood Mysteries teen fiction series, Antony Barone Kolenc’s protagonist Xan and friends are embroiled in another mystery that will take all their cunning to solve.
Murder at Penwood Manor, set in 12th century England, follows Xan, Christina, and Uncle William back to Harwood Abbey and Penwood Manor where they're reunited with Lucy, who is now a novice in the convent there. On the way they befriend Laurence, a warrior returning from the Crusades. All is well until Laurence is accused of murder in the manor. Did demonic forces push Laurence to commit murder, or is something else afoot? As Xan and company work to solve the mystery, they discover that darkness can take many forms and that the real killer may still be at large.
“This book is suspenseful and spooky, a story about the struggle between good and evil.” states Kolenc, “But it also deals with universal themes such as courage, friendship, doing the right thing, and discovering God's purpose for our lives.”
Readers follow Xan’s struggles to live as God intends and also to help the people around him. “Xan is a role model for children, showing them how to be conscious of God’s work in their lives in all kinds of situations,” Kolenc explains.
Like all the books in the Harwood Mysteries series, in Murder at Penwood Manor Kolenc’s focus is on captivating the young reader through mystery and not violence. The publisher also provides many useful activities and lesson plans for parents, homeschools, and classrooms that help reinforce the messages in the books.
